Only 30 Days Till We Sail ๐บ
After months of planning, and shopping, and researching, and packing, and repacking, it’s hard to believe that we are this close to launching our Great Adventure. For so long it has seemed like “sometime next year”, that the reality of its imminence comes as a bit of a surprise.
We’ve had a fairly narrow focus up till now trying to make sure that we’ve thought of everything and that everything is in place. Getting the visas required by several countries we will be visiting was probably the biggest hassle, particularly the ones for India that required extensive documentation. Past that now, but it was all quite aggravating.
Knowing what clothing to pack was a bit of a conundrum. I finally got some help from the cruise line hostess who said that they don’t post weather related info on their website because it can vary so much. I guess they don’t want to deal with passengers who complain, “You said it would be 85 degrees and it was only 75 when we got there!” This is what she came up with doing her own research:
Weather daytime Averages January
Nicaragua, Panama, Columbia, Mexico – 82 to 92 degrees F
February
South Pacific (French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Tonga) - 75 to 88 degrees F
Fiji – Warmer, sometimes 90
New Zealand in late February and early MarchTypically on the North Island, temperatures fluctuate between 43 - 81 degrees F. Average daytime temperatures for the whole of New Zealand typically fluctuate between 64 - 77 degrees F, so March
is still a pretty warm month to visit New Zealand.
Australia lows to highs in March in degrees F
Tasmania 55 t 69
NSW 64 to 74
Queensland 73 to 86
Northern Territories 76 to 90
Bali in March – Average is 80 degrees F
Singapore in March lows to highs – 77 to 90 degrees F
Malaysia & Thailand – Average 80 to 91 degrees F
Sri Lanka & India in April
Sri Lanka lows to highs 77 to 90 degrees F
India can become quite warm in April – often 90’s and above
Oman, Jordan, Israel in AprilOman averages 85 to 90 degrees F
Jordan averages 75 to 85 degrees F
Israel, as we move into Med, averages lower 70 to 75 degrees F
The Med in April
Cyprus & Crete averages around 70 degrees F
Rome average lows to highs 50 to 68 degrees F
We have also been working our way through the many opportunities for excursions once the adventure begins. Some are focused on scenery, some on history, some are. cultural, and some are active....something for everyone.
A different sort of packing, but I’ve been loading books to read on my iPad, so if you have any good suggestions, I’d certainly welcome them. I’ve already got The Institute, Little Fires Everwhere, and The Girl Who Wrote in Silk in the lineup.
And just when I thought I had figured out what knitting projects to take along, Jen and Sean threw me a curve ball with their announcement that they are expecting a baby boy at the end of May 2020. Wonderful news, but it has caused me to dive back into my stash and reconsider a couple of items. It’s also making me a bit anxious that the lad might not wait till we return to make his appearance.
Looking forward to spending Christmas in Ohio celebrating with family and friends!
